Instructor: Hank Knox
Location: Tanna Schulich Hall, Schulich School of Music
Time: 8:30-10:30

Note: This course is a two-week session.  Active Participants are required to register for and attend both Week 1 and Week 2.

This course is for anyone who has ever dreamed (or despaired!) of creating their own accompaniment from a figured bass. We will work through standard 17th and 18th century cadential formulas and sequences and learn to recognize the common chord symbols. We will also explore the various technical devices available to the continuo player at the organ or harpsichord: simple and complex arpeggios, ornaments, passing tones and imitation, varieties of texture and tessitura. There will be opportunities to work with soloists in class.
